Chapter 2 _ESPACES, with Shukei
Je connais Shukei depuis quelques années, mais je pense la connaitre encore mieux depuis que j’ai découvert son chez elle.
Je me suis faite cette réflexion il y a quelque temps. À quel point connait-on vraiment les personnes qui nous entourent, avant de voir comment elles vivent?
J’ai aimé instantanément ce petit appartement, au coeur du Marais à Paris:
Dans une petite cour fleurie, on ouvre une lourde porte menant à un gigantesque escalier. Mais c’est par la petite porte dérobée que l’on découvre l’appartement de Shukei. À la fois discret et chatoyant. Des poutres sombres et un je-ne-sais-quoi de médiéval, des petits objets brillants attirent mon oeil. Il semble régner ici une atmosphère de mystère, ou dernière chacun des objets exposés comme dans un cabinet de curiosités, se cache une histoire.
Un trio d’aiguilles, hérité de sa grand-mère, repose sur un meuble. À côté, un service de petits verres sur un plateau, et ici une fleur séchée.
Avec Shukei, nous découvrirons son monde au travers des objets qui l’entourent.
C’est son lieu de vie qui racontera son histoire et la richesse de son parcours.
Shukei est designer maroquinerie, d’une douce complexité, et d’un imaginaire riche, elle dessine, elle crée des objets, des projets. Et ne s’arrêtera pas de courir en si bon chemin.

Who are you, where are you from ? where are you going next? next plan, next step, next project?)
« I am Quan, I’m from China, everybody calls me Shukei. I’m trying to explore more and more things I could be interested in, this is the next step 🙂 »
I feel that we know people a little bit more, when we walk into their home. You have so many nice objects around you, it feels like there is a story behind each of them. What can your home tell us about you?
« At my home you can find things I like or with memories, some tools for making things, it’s a place for me to relax too. »
You lived in different country and experience education in different country. What did you bring back from each different experiences?
« I think these experiences gave me a blend of different things, friendship for example, it’s very precious. »
What advice would you give to your young self?
« Feel very free. »
Do you have extra creative projects after you’ve finished your day job?
« Yes, I’m working on projects with friends. Because I really like all of them, I try to manage my time in order to do as much as I can. I learn a lot from our exchanges as well. »
Let’s set the perfect mood to create: where would it be, working on what, with what ambiance ?
« It’s perfect to be in a bright and empty space, creating something from scratch. »
What kind of things in life attract you attention? What moves you?
« Strange living things, natural history, science, novelty objects, mechanisms, craftsmanship, art, secret puzzles, things people keep close to themselves. »
